So yesterday, fighting with the ALSA bus website, I never managed to get a ticket. Yet today there are charges on both of my bank accounts totaling over $180. I sure hope this gets resolved quickly, but I have a feeling that is a fantasy...I was already insanely tight on money for this trip. Throw this in and things go from tight to choking...$180 is 10 nights in an inexpensive hostel, just to put it in perspective, about an 1/8 of my time here.
I found this out after I went out shopping today. I finally managed to score a couple of shirts and a sweater for about 20 Euros. Then I went to the grocery and got real orange Fanta (not the American version), a cheap bottle of wine (1 Euro, and even the cheapest wine is good here), a fresh baguette straight from the bakery, some sausage and an incredible cheese. I also paid for 2 more nights here at the hostel, because the bus tickets after the weekend are about $20 cheaper.
Luckily I get my last paycheck from my job tomorrow, unless there's another problem. Please don't let there be more trouble...
On the less gloomy side of things, last night I went out to a bar with two girls from LA, Jordan and Jessica, who actually live in southern Mexico, two girls who run the hostel I'm in from Australia, Kate and Emma, and a group of guys from France, Sebastian, Philipe, and I never did find out the last guy's name. The first bar closed almost as soon as we arrived, so we headed over to the Bee Bop and I tried my first Kalimotxo (half cola, half red wine). I danced for a while and came back to the hostel around 0330 with Emma.
That seems late in the US, but here clubs don't even open until 2am and close around 7am. Then I met two guys from Seattle, Aaron and Tyler, and looked at pictures from Barcelona. I finally rolled into my bunk after 4am and slept for a bit until the rest of the group came back, loudly. Hostels are definitely not for light sleepers or people who actually want to sleep all night without being woken up by yelling, lights, or people stumbling around in the dark.
